Water Logging: The New Reality Jammuites Have To Live With

Jammu, July 20: The new government in Jammu and Kashmir had brought new hopes among the citizens who were eager to see the new trends and new initiatives that the first ever BJP-PDP alliance was likely to roll out.

But alas; what the people are witnessing for the past more than four months is complete chaos and status quo on major fronts while on others it is more like a reverse gear rather than a push to a new era of development.

What a common man is asking is whether this is going to end someday or they have to learn to live with it forever as there seems no respite from the over flowing nallahs, water clogged drains and regular flooding of streets which has become a norm these days.

The common man is worried about the fact that despite many promises and seemingly concerned ministers and legislators the work on actual ground is not visible and the problem of water logging, overflowing of nallahs and huge potholes on the busy roads is only aggravating by the day with all measures that is being told are taken proving complete hoax.

The changing climate, increased flood fury and heavy rains has complicated the problem in the state with Kashmir valley witnessing at least eight cloud bursts in last fifteen days that too at places which have never been considered as risky areas for such sudden natural calamities.

While Kashmir is adapting to cloudbursts and flooding Jammu has been chosen by the nature and the lethargic administration for water logging, overflowing nallahs, flash floods and potholed roads to adapt to the new reality of the new government.

Even though everything cannot be blamed on the new dispensation but the new ruling class cannot escape the blame of acting as mute spectators despite the fact that more than four months have gone since they took over the reins of the state.

Four months as they say are not enough for the new entrants into the governance to deliver but it is also a fact that this much time is enough to learn to solve at least one problem that hits the citizens hard.

The citizens have already started cursing themselves for choosing a dispensation that seems confused about everything and is busy resolving their own differences in spite of mitigating the miseries of the common man.

The government had recently said that it would take some time to get good roads as it was planning to macadamize at least 800 kilometers of roads in the state but the question is how long more as the patience is giving way to frustration among the electorate who too are clue less of whom to complain or approach for mitigating their miseries.

The Monsoon is ending in Jammu and so will be the miseries of the people like water logging, power crisis etc but these would end on their own with credit to government while with the onset of winter the works in Kashmir valley are practically impossible which indicates that the citizens of this state would have to wait for another year to see their problems getting resolved.

It would be in the fitness of things that the new dispensation pulls its socks fast and starts delivering at least at the common man front where it pinches the most and restore the faith and credibility of the leadership among the people particularly Jammuites who are otherwise simmering with discontent due to many factors like Tawi lake project, AIIMS issue and day to day problems of water, power and road crisis.

Hope the government wakes up to reality before Jammuites begin to revolt against the new reality that they are forced to live with.
