Optimism has its own benefits and importance

Jammu, November 03: It is said that everything is never lost as when we perceive that everything has been lost there is still the future that is yet not lost and that is called optimism which keeps us alive, kicking and craving for more.

In India we believe in Vasudev Kutumbkam (The world is my family) and that has been our mantra for thousands of years while in local parlance we often come across people saying “umeed par duniya kayam hai” (World rests on hope) signifying optimism which keeps this world going on in a civilized way.

Hence raking up a few odd incidents and going the whole hog against the government with slogans of ‘intolerance’ and conspiracy theories is nothing but political gimmick and propagating negativity in the country.

When people need good advice and positive thoughts from the politicians what they get is an imaginary fear psychosis from the people who are mandated to run the country on behalf of people to provide the succor and work for development.

In a country of 1.25 billion people a few incidents here or there can never be termed as growing intolerance at a time when other billions are safe and coming and going to their homes without any fear except for the media and a section of politicians who would like the world to believe that Indian government is worse than ISIS and needs to be finished.

It is these political opportunists who coin terms to defeat the nationalism and help the enemy by raking up issues that are criminal incidents requiring strict police investigations rather than world attention.

Media too has been helping them to spread negativity in the country by joining this pessimist forces who are out to spread negativity to suppress the positive thoughts in the country.

The award returning spree has also its roots in the political opportunism and the wrong policies of the successive governments in India who have converted the Rajya Sabha and state legislative councils into political rehabilitation centers of rejected politicians negating its original purpose and thus denying the platform to writers, thinkers, journalists, lawyers, doctors and artists to share their experience with the people and keep checks and balances through their power in the upper houses.

Had these upper houses or houses of elders not been diluted through political nose poking the award returning spree would not have taken place as countries thinkers and intellectual class would have been wielding the power to do what they are now doing through unnecessary protests maligning the image of their own country at international levels.

The current government headed by Narendra Modi has a huge task at hand if it wants to correct the mess by making the political process truly democratic and cleansing the Rajya Sabha and Councils of the political rehabilitators by making the actual use of the houses by nominating artists, lawyers, thinkers and other intellectual class to the upper house to let them have their say in decision making process.

At the same time the government must also nourish optimism in the country by setting an example of good governance and make use of the successful democratic setups in the world instead of wasting decades by learning first and implementing later.

The latest technology can bridge the gap between developed nations and the developing nations within years if the ruling governments have will power to change the destiny of the people.
