Finally Jammu limps back to normalcy; right decision!

Jammu, August 5: After six days of uncertainty, political drama, chaos, confusion, violence, intrigues, damage to public property and above all loss of precious time of the students Jammu finally limps back to normalcy after the AIIMS Coordination Committee wisely decided to suspend the agitation and let government come out with a notification for establishing AIIMS in Jammu.

Well! Calling off or suspending the agitation is the wisest step taken by AIIMS CC as like BJP it too was losing the ground fast in Jammu with patience running out among Jammuites due to continuous bandh harming the studies, exams of the students and loss of revenue to the business establishments particularly those who are dependent on daily wages to run their lives.

The bandh in first place was no solution and was not only badly timed but also a bad precedent to achieve goals, for it is being debated world over that harming your own interests and economy is no solution to your problems even if genuine and thinkers are stressing for adopting other novel methods to pressurize the governments to meet demands of the public.

Anyway the decision has been taken wisely as it was also well known that the many sections of the society were getting divided over the contradictory statements from AIIMS CC and the Government representatives with one saying AIIMS has been given to Jammu and the other sticking to its position that government was befooling the people.

However observers feel that both the parties took rigid stands only because of their hurt egos and forced the gullible public to pay price for their whims and fancies to come out as winner.

In the overall situation one can say that all is well that ends well even though the agitation has not been called off but suspended till a proper notification is issued and the documents that have been shown are proved genuine.

The public sentiment however was seeing a change and that is precisely what perhaps the ACC had smelled and decided to suspend the agitation instead of taking a rigid stand and getting exposed later on by facing the wrath of the general public.

Had it not done so and extended the bandh for next six days as was being speculated the AIIMS CC would have written its own epitaph as local people were fed up now and had started defying the bandh calls partly due to the economic reasons and partly due to BJP coming out in open asking its cadre to open the shops.

Now the issue that the public will debate is who has won the war or who gets the credit if at all the news of granting two AIIMS to the state is actually true.

While BJP would cry hoarse now that it had promised and now delivered the AIIMS and it was Congress and other opposition parties that funded the AIIMS CC to bring bad name to BJP for their political interests, the AIIMS CC would like to get the credit for itself saying it was its mass agitation that forced the central government to allot two AIIMS to the state.

However as discussed in our earlier articles the war does not stop here and would spill out again for IIT, IIM, Law University and other such projects that might be on their way to the state.

It would be now the responsibility of the government to address the issue patiently and intelligently to resolve the crisis and avoid any future confrontation if it is serious in delivering the developmental promise as any confrontation would only result in compromising the development for politics.
